The Pembroke Regional Hospital requires three (3) Patient Services Attendants in the Emergency Department. These positions are offered on a Temporary Part-Time basis with a .4 FTE commitment.

Reporting to the Clinical Manager Emergency and Intensive Care Unit Department, the Patient Services Attendant is responsible for providing exceptional customer service to patients visiting the Emergency Department. The patient services attendant is seen as a resource to all patients and visitors during their visit in the department. They anticipate the needs to patients and visitors, and follow departmental and hospital policies to provide information to visitors.

Other responsibilities will include:

  • Greet patients upon arrival to the Hospital
  • Monitor wheelchair availability and assist in transporting patients to their destination when required

  • Provide helpful assistance to patients and family members to hospital departments and escort patients to destination when required
  • Assist in rounding of patient rooms, and provide patients with refreshments and/or comfort aides
  • Work with housekeeping department to monitor the overall appearance of the hospital entrance
  • Request patients complete comment cards
  • Anticipate needs of the patient/visitor and provide assistance
  • Provide refreshments and reading materials ensuring adequate supplies are stocked

Applicants must be available to work all shifts including weekends.
Hours: Variety of shifts including days, afternoons, weekends and holidays (Subject to change based on operational needs)

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Minimum Grade 12
  • Mature, dependable and empathetic individual
  • Must be able to maintain strict confidentiality of patients and visitors
  • Ability to maintain helpful and friendly disposition to patients and families under duress
  • Exceptional customer service required with proven ability to resolve patient service issues, answer questions, and refer problems when necessary
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and willingness to work in collaboration with and take direction from Emergency staff members
  • Excellent communication skills with ability to put patients and family members at ease
  • Demonstrated excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to handle stressful and crisis situations
  • Demonstrated commitment to patient safety
  • Ability to meet physical demands of the position
  • Must have demonstrated ability to meet the attendance standards of the Hospital
  • Bilingualism is preferred
