Registered Nurses practice as members of a multi-disciplinary team in accordance with the Public Hospitals Act, the Regulated Health Professions Act, the Nursing Act, and the Standards set by the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO). In keeping with the Hospital’s Mission, Vision and Values, and policies and procedures, RN’s provide professional nursing care to patients.

Nursing Graduate Guarantee Program:

  • Support new nurses in Ontario as they transition into practice;

  • Improve the integration of new nurses into the workforce;

  • Promote the availability of full-time employment or the equivalent of full-time hours for new nurses; and

  • Promote health workforce planning at the organizational level

    Eligibility for New Nurses:

  • Graduated with a baccalaureate degree in nursing program;

  • Match with an employer on the NGG online portal within 12 months of registering with the CNO; and

  • Commit to accepting full-time employment or the equivalent of full-time hours with their NGG employer after completing the NGG program transition into practice period.

Requirements:

  1. Newly graduated nurse – nurse who have graduated from a nursing program or refresher program within the last year

  2. Current certificate of competence as Registered Nurse (RN) from the College of Nurses of Ontario

  3. Basic cardiac life support certification

  4. Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and with respect in an oral and written format with patients, public, colleagues and other health disciplines

  5. Demonstrated effective problem solving and critical thinking skills

  6. Demonstrated ability to apply basic computer skills

  7. Demonstrated and proven ability to work in a collaborative care model with all members of the health care team

  8. Demonstrated knowledge and application of the College of Nurses standards of practice

  9. Demonstrated commitment to continuing education activities supporting ongoing professional learning in nursing

  10. Demonstrated commitment to patient safety

  11. Must have demonstrated ability to meet the attendance standards of the Hospital

  12. Bilingualism is an asset
